Interface

Basically, the interface of the Sequencer is split in 4 parts:

  1. Toolbar

  2. Outliner

  3. Timeline

  4. Playback Controls

The content of the Sequencer can change depending the type of asset edited (Level, Board or Shot Sequence). This difference can be explained:

  • Level Sequences are used to assemble together existing Actors from the Level/Map. In comparison, it is a little like being on a live-action stage with props, cameras and comedians ready to be shot to make a film. It can also be compared to an Editing Sofware in which you will be using existing video files.

  • Shot and Board Sequences, on the other hand, creates Assets (like Textures or Materials) and Actors (like Cameras or Planes) from scratch, like any 2D animation software or storyboard software.

Because of that, different options can be found in the Sequencer between Level Sequences and Board/Shot Sequences:

Sequencer’s Toolbar

In the different options from the Sequencer’s Toolbar, some function may also not be working depending on the context.

Note

To better understand how to work with the Sequencer in general, we advise you to read Unreal Engine 5.4 guide.
