# Editing a Static Mesh Texture (Viewport Drawing Interface) ## 1. Basics ILIAD can edit Static Meshes' Textures directly from Unreal Engine levels. To do so, the following elements are necessary : • a Static Mesh (to get started, basic volumes from Unreal Engine will do the trick) • a Material • at least one Texture used on this Material *Basic volumes, a translucent Material and a Texture with a transparent backgroud : we are ready to work !* Once everything is set, select the Mesh to be edited and go to Unreal Engine Tool Bar to select ILIAD mode : ILIAD prevents the edition of a Texture on multiple editors. If the Texture to be edited is already in use, either on default Unreal Engine editor or ILIAD Texture Editor, please close this editor first. Plus, if you use the ILIAD mode for the very first time on this project, you might need to activate the option "Support UV From Hit Results" To activate this option, please go to "Edit > Project Settings" and search for the aforementioned feature : Do not forget then to restart your project to apply the change. ## 2. ILIAD mode Once ILIAD mode gets activated, a panel on the left and another one at the tp will pop : The panel on the left is the main one. It will allo you to change the Actor, to select Meshes, to select a Material or a specific Texture used in the Materia. If you close it, you will close ILIAD. The second one at the top will let you access to the same features and panels as ILIAD Texture Editor or Flipbook Editor : Paint modifiers (Size, Opacity, Flow, etc), Brush selectors, Color Selectors (wheel / sliders) etc. When you click on a panel from the Toolbar, this one will be floating: it's up to you to dock it anywhere (or not): From that point, you are ready to work on your Texture. You can use this feature either to edit a prop or un element from the background : ... or you can use it to draw on planes, with 3D objects as guides : *Note that if you want to draw on a plane from a CineCamera Actor's perspective, you must enable the "Cinematic Viewport" to prevent an offset between the line and the cursor* For more information about ILIAD interface, [please read this lesson](https://praxinos.coop/Documentation/Iliad/User/html/Iliad-User-Documentation/User-guide/Interface-and-Panels/) ## 3. Case you won't be able to directly paint on the Mesh: There are several cases ILIAD mode won't work: • editing another Mesh type (such as an animated character) • editing a Static Mesh whose the Material modified the original UV (to pan the Texture or to repeat the pattern several times) • editing a Foliage • editing an asset that won't use a Static Mesh (Post Process, Decals, etc). In this case, you can enable the "2D viewport" which will allow you to paint on the UV and see the result in Unreal Engine viewport simultaneously.
